Greek Orthodox Easter
Candlelit processions, midnight fireworks and long family feasts mark the most important date in the Greek calendar, celebrated warmly in Chora and the island villages. A beautiful, authentic time to arrive before high season.

Feast of Panagia Tourliani

The Area
Set on the northern edge of the Cyclades, Mykonos is small enough that no beach lies much more than half an hour's drive from Chora, yet its moods vary sharply. Mykonos Town holds the windmills, Little Venice and a harbour busy all summer with yachts and cruise ships. Inland, Ano Mera gathers around its monastery square, still recognisably a farming village. The south coast runs from the organised bays at Platis Gialos and Paraga to the long sands of Elia and Kalafati, while the north, at Panormos and Fokos, stays emptier and catches the meltemi. A villa lets you choose your own distance from the scene.

Things to Do
Days revolve around the beaches, from the club-lined sands at Psarou and Paradise to quiet Agios Sostis in the north. A short boat trip from Chora reaches Delos, the sacred island at the heart of the ancient Cyclades and one of Greece's most significant archaeological sites; go early, before the cruise crowds land. Charter a yacht to circle the island's coves, learn to windsurf at Kalafati, or walk the bare headlands between beaches in spring. Ano Mera's monastery of Panagia Tourliani rewards an unhurried afternoon, finished with lunch at a taverna on the square. Your concierge arranges boats, watersports, guides and daybeds around your pace.
Dining & Nightlife
Few islands eat and go out like Mykonos. Restaurants run from seaside tavernas serving the day's catch to internationally ambitious kitchens, with Mykonian specialities such as louza cured pork and peppery kopanisti cheese worth seeking out. After dark Chora hums: shops stay open past midnight and the lanes fill with cocktail bars, live music and celebrated clubs, while the southern beaches host parties that begin in daylight. When to Visit
The season runs from around Easter into late October, occasionally stretching to November. July and August bring the warmest weather, the fullest calendar and the largest crowds, the island at full tilt. Late May, June and September offer warm seas, open restaurants and easier beach access at a gentler tempo, ideal for families and couples. The meltemi blows hardest in high summer, which is when a sheltered pool earns its keep. Spring and autumn suit walkers, and Delos is at its best without the heat.
