Saint Martin through the seasons
- High season (December – April)
Dry-season perfection
Trade-wind days, calm seas and the island's social peak from regatta to carnival. Villas on the French side's beaches book earliest.
- Late spring (May – June)
Quiet beaches, gentle prices
Warm, mostly dry weather with far fewer visitors: the connoisseur's window for lazy days at Grand Case's beach bars and gourmet tables.
- Summer (July – September)
Warm seas and island calm
The greenest, quietest months, with bath-warm water for swimming and snorkelling. Showers pass quickly, and a private pool villa makes the pace easy.
- Autumn (October – November)
The island reawakens
Restaurants and beach clubs gear up for the season as November's food events showcase the island's claim as the Caribbean's culinary capital.
The Area
Saint Martin occupies the northern, French portion of an island it shares with Dutch Sint Maarten, the smallest landmass divided between two nations. Its character leans distinctly French: croissants at the bakery, euros alongside dollars and a relaxed Gallic rhythm. The terrain is gently mountainous, with Pic Paradis rising at the centre and a coastline scalloped into dozens of sheltered bays. Marigot, the French capital, gathers a waterfront market, marina and Creole architecture, while the lagoon and protected nature reserves frame the eastern shore. Trade winds keep the climate warm and breezy year-round, and the island is compact enough to cross in under an hour, making villa stays here feel both secluded and wonderfully connected.
Where to Stay
Our luxury villas in Saint Martin cluster around the most coveted enclaves. Terres Basses, the exclusive lowlands between Baie Rouge and Baie Longue, is the address for grand beachfront and hillside estates with sweeping sunset views. Grand Case suits those who want gourmet dining on the doorstep, while Anse Marcel and Cul-de-Sac offer gated calm near quiet northern beaches and the boat to Pinel Island. Oyster Pond and the Orient Bay hinterland appeal to families wanting space and pools close to the island's liveliest beach. Whichever you choose, expect private pools, generous outdoor living and concierge service to handle the details.
Things to Do
Beaches define the days here. Baie Orientale offers watersports and beach clubs, Baie Rouge and Baie Longue reward those seeking quieter sand, and a short boat hop reaches Pinel Island or nearby Anguilla. Snorkelling, kitesurfing, paddleboarding and catamaran charters are easily arranged through your villa concierge. Inland, trails climb Pic Paradis through tropical forest, and the Loterie Farm reserve adds zip-lines and shaded pools. Marigot's market brims with spices, rum and crafts, while the Dutch side delivers casinos and duty-free boutiques minutes away. Sunset sailings and private chef dinners round out an island built for unhurried, sensory pleasure.
Dining & Nightlife
Saint Martin is the gastronomic heart of the Caribbean, and Grand Case is its epicentre. The single seafront street lines up refined French restaurants beside the lolos, open-air barbecue grills serving ribs, snapper and johnny cakes. Expect fresh seafood, French wine lists and Creole flavours across Marigot and the bays. Beach clubs along Orient Bay blend long lunches with daytime music, while the livelier nightlife, casinos and bars sit just over the border on the Dutch side. A private chef in your villa is among the most popular concierge requests, turning the terrace into a candlelit dining room above the sea.
When to Visit
The dry, sunny high season runs December to April, with warm days, low humidity and reliable trade winds; this is peak time for villas and reservations are best made early. May and June bring fewer crowds and still-excellent weather. The Atlantic hurricane season spans roughly June to November, with the greatest activity in late summer and early autumn, when some travellers find quieter beaches and softer rates. Temperatures stay warm throughout the year, rarely straying far from the high twenties Celsius, so swimming and beach days are possible in every month.
Getting There
Most visitors arrive via Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on the Dutch side, a major regional hub with direct flights from Europe and North America and the famous low approach over Maho Beach. From there the French villas are a short drive across the open border. Smaller Grand Case-Espérance Airport (SFG) handles regional island-hoppers, and ferries and yachts call at Marigot and the lagoon. The island has no border formalities between sides, and your concierge can arrange private transfers, car hire or a yacht charter so the journey to your villa is seamless.
