Unique Architectural designed villa located in a quiet village

Maroulas, Greece

12 guests|1 bedroom|4 bathrooms

This villa does not fit in any category. Rather, it is a category on its own, establishing a unique architectural and aesthetical paradigm and a new definition of luxury. It is actually an old Venetian villa built in 1426, which was completely restored leaving all traditional elements untouched. It’s built entirely of stone, featuring archways both on the inside and the outside. Large floor-to-roof windows made of iron and glass perfectly contemplate stone, while wood used in furniture and various surfaces enhances the sense of quality. The ceiling stands 3.6 meters high. The overall result signals warmth, monastery-like mysticism and aristocracy.

Overview of the house

The space

This villa can accommodate up to 12 guests in 540 sq. m. On the outside it looks like a tower. Entering the villa you will find a swimming pool, surrounded by potted plants, flowers and elegant garden furniture. This is the place to sunbathe, unwind and relax. Deeper in, there is the main living area, with a huge lounge and a marble floor, a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, a vaulted television room, and hi-tech office space . The villa has five bedrooms, all with air conditioning for the summer and central heating for the winter. It is extremely well equipped to cater for families with babies and small children, supplying plenty of toys and games to keep youngsters entertained. There is also a separate children’s space. On the outside there is plenty of space. Apart from the front and inner courtyards, there is a massive roof terrace on the first floor of the building. From here you have a superb view of the village, the sea and the surrounding countryside.

The neighbourhood

Maroulas is a quiet and small village situated situated just outside Rethymno City, the third largest and most friendly city in Crete. The village stands on a height offering magnificent views. The area features greenery, a spring and several valleys. Maroulas is a historic village. In 1980, it was officially listed as a historical settlement due to its monuments but also due to some of its houses including this villa. Amongst its rich historical heritage, visitors can discover important remains of ancient tombstones dating back to antiquity, two wonderful Venetian towers, a Byzantine church dedicated to the Ascension and a more recent church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
